Hymenoplasty FAQs
Hymenoplasty restores the hymen after it has torn, this can happen for a few reasons such as sexual intercourse, sport or the use of a tampon. The hymen is a membrane which is in the low part of the vagina. You only require one visit to MAS Gynaecology for a successful treatment and the procedure usually will only take around an hour to complete.
Depending on the severity of the tear, we can stitch the torn tissue edges to encourage them to heal naturally. However, if the area is completely torn, the torn tissues will be removed before a new hymen is made from the tissue in the lip of the vagina. Thanks to Hymenoplasty this will imitate the original, unbroken hymen.
The repair, rejuvenation and retightening of the hymen.
Women who undergo Hymenoplasty will normally feel a little drained or tired for a couple of days and usually there can be a small amount of soreness during that time. To fully heal from the surgery takes roughly two weeks.
Any woman who has suffered a hymen tear of any size is an ideal candidate for hymenoplasty. Sometimes it is not always possible to tell if your hymen has torn so if you are unsure it is always worth booking a general consultation at MAS Gynaecology where you can discuss the matter in complete confidence.
