Uterine Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that are varied in size and develop in or around the womb. Sometimes known simply as fibroids, roughly a third of women will suffer from uterine fibroids at some point in their life. Here at MAS Gynaecology we offer private consultations which can diagnose fibroids and we also provide fibroid removal treatments.

What Causes Uterine Fibroids

There is no known specific cause of fibroids but their grown has been connected to the female hormone oestrogen which is produced by the female reproductive organs – the ovaries. Because of this, the growth of fibroids can occur during the years a woman is most likely to bear a child, although they normally grow between the age of 30 and 50.

It has been suggested that women who are overweight are more likely to develop fibroids as being overweight prompts an increase in the amount of oestrogen a woman produces. Once a woman has had a child the risk of developing fibroids decreases and gets lower and lower the more children they have.

A woman can have one fibroid or several and they can even go undetected as some women do not suffer any of the symptoms usually associated with uterine fibroids.

Below see a list of common symptoms which can usually be linked to the presence of fibroids, if you suffer from any it is advisable to book a consultation with MAS Gynaecology.

  • Heavy periods or periods which last longer than a week
  • Back pain
  • Having to urinate more frequently than usual
  • Constipation
  • Pain or discomfort after or during sex

Fibroid Removal

Uterine Fibroid Removal

While what fibroid treatment you receive is determined by each individual case, if necessary MAS can offer uterine fibroid removal at our private London clinics. We ensure each woman who visits MAS for fibroid treatment receives an exceptional level of care during her time with us.

There are several types of fibroids, all of which our gynaecologist Mr Masood can carefully remove, that grow in different parts of the uterus.

The most common kinds of uterine fibroids are:

  • Subserosal Fibroids – a type of fibroid which can become large and grows outside the womb wall
  • Submucosal fibroids – grows towards the womb cavity from within the inner lining of the womb
  • Intramural Fibroids – this fibroid type develops in the wall of the womb
  • Pedunculated Fibroids – when a Subserosal or Submucosal Fibroid is attached to the womb by a length of tissue

If you have any queries or questions regarding fibroids or you would like to book a consultation with MAS Gynaecology do not hesitate to contact us by calling 0782 597 0530.
